LEDCO Office Building Construction on Site of old LHS - June 18, 2022

I visited Longview today meeting up with Paul Jones and Marc Welch at the Gregg County Historical Museum.  Marc and I went into the museum to cool off while waiting for Paul.  After Paul arrived I purchased the 1965 Lobo annual from him then I headed over and took pictures of the progress of the new LEDCO office building on the site of old Longview High School .  For my main Longview High School 1932 album click here .

Longview Voice - Living History

Local historial Paul Jones donated old original copies of the Lobo Newspaper from the 1930s to Longview ISD which were scanned and can now be downloaded from the Longview Voice (Modern day Lobo newspaper) website below.   https://w3.lisd.org/district/departments/community-relations/longview-voice

Construction of LEDCO - June 10, 2022

Longview Economic Development Corporation is building a new office on the site of old Longview High School.  They started dirt work this week.   When the old high school was demolished the basement was filled with building debris and covered over with a layer of dirt which would eventually become the parking lot for the former T. G. Field Auditorium.  Excavation for the new LEDCO building has exposed broken pieces of the old Longview High School building which can be seen in the photos below.  For additional photographs please visit my Longview High School 1932 Flickr album. These photos are courtesy of Paul Jones.

Hilton Hotel

Longview's downtown hotel was a Hilton from 1936 - 1947.  And no, it was not the second hotel in Conrad Hilton's hotel chain.  That is a legend in Longview's history and I am working on preparing a blog to explain how that legend started. Click here  for more pictures of the downtown hotel on Jimmy's Flicker Albums.
